Life is a journey which never fails to throw up many challenges and obstacles that can leave us feeling lost and hopeless. Throughout childhood, we formulate beliefs about ourselves that are communicated through messages passed on by our caregivers, authority figures and societal structures that determine our sense of self. These ideas represent our place in the world and how we function in everyday life. However, our capacity to grow may become inhibited when these ideas may have damaged our sense of worth and value. The Person-centred approach aims to help you challenge these ideas and empower individuals to take responsibility for their life and ultimately find a more authentic you. Not dissimilar to the metamorphosis of a butterfly, the person emerges from their chrysalis as a more self-accepting and freer individual when they discover and restore their true sense of self.

Person-centred therapy assumes every person has an inner motivation to grow and reach their potential if their environment is conducive. Therefore, my therapeutic approach is based on the notion that by offering you an atmosphere that esteems genuineness, empathy, compassion, and universal acceptance, then change will occur as a result. As your counsellor, I am committed to you by holding a confidential and non-directive space where you can explore whatever you wish without judgement.


Experience

Over the past five years, I have amassed vast experience working with young people
and adults in various organisations. I have experience working as a school counsellor, and with vulnerable adults in the homeless sector. Also, I have extensive knowledge of safeguarding systems and working with clients who have experienced trauma. During this time, I have accumulated substantial experience working alongside bereavement, self-harm, suicide, depression, anxiety, family relationships, stress, and emotional/physical/sexual abuse.

As well as offering work private long term and short-term therapy, I am employed
by an organisation that provides online/phone counselling for vulnerable young people. This service provides a solution-focused approach to supporting people which combines well with my background in person-centred therapy. Hence, with training and experience in solution-focused brief therapy, I also offer private short-term work over six sessions to coach and help you accomplish specific goals you bring to therapy.

I am also currently studying a master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy to enhance and continue my development as a therapist.

Our first session.

Before our first session, I will ask if we can share a brief telephone conversation to
discuss availability and your requirements for counselling. Then the first session will give us the chance to meet and will help you decide whether you would like to work together in the future since it is essential that you find a counsellor that is right for you.
The counselling setting.
My counselling room is in a secure location in the centre of Loughborough. The building has an intercom system and a lift for accessibility. The room itself is a quiet and relaxed space and is located on the second floor of the premises. Although there is no parking for the building, there is available parking nearby and disabled spaces. Additionally, there are excellent transport links, as the room is a one-minute walk from the high street.

Working online.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I offer alternative sessions over Zoom (If this is your preferred way to communicate).
