Hi! I'm Emma. I originally studied science and completed a PhD in medical research. However, I've always been passionate about engaging with people, their experiences and how they feel about themselves… so I was never the typical ‘scientist’!

I decided to study to be a counsellor to see if I was suited to talking about feelings and helping people one-to-one. During my training, I had to have my own personal therapy and that was when I became truly committed to being a therapist. Trying different therapists and experiencing different forms of therapy for myself really made me excited about one day being 'the professional' - sitting in the therapists' chair. I also took on voluntary placements to start to put some of my learning into practice; with excellent clinical supervision.

I have since set up my own thriving private practice in South London, working mainly on-line, and see clients from all walks of life who all have one thing in common... striving to be in the best mental health they can be!

  • Qualifications & Experience
I've worked as a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist for 10+ years.

I have undertaken extensive specialist training to work with people suffering from the effects of trauma and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

I have volunteered, both while training and post-qualification, with organisations who worked with women and young girls who have experienced rape, childhood sexual, physical or emotional abuse, and domestic violence. I continue to work with these issues in my private practice.

I also work with women and men who have needed additional support when they have had a baby not delivered to term (post-miscarriage or post-abortion).

I am also trained in the use of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) - commonly known as 'Tapping'; and use the techniques while working with clients, as and when appropriate.; or if specifically requested as a stand-alone therapy.

My experience spans all the common mental wellness challenges you could encounter... feeling sad, depressed, in despair, stressed, fearful, angry, anxious, abandoned, lonely, rejected, traumatised and confused. I've encountered so many feelings and experiences while working with people that this list can never be complete.

I am also a qualified Life Coach - Accredited on the NCPS register; and provide specific Life Coaching sessions; which are separate from Counselling. You can book those with me as well (see fees).

I was a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) for many years; and then moved over to the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) as their Code of Ethics and representation of the Counselling profession better suits my own values and ethics. Since joining NCPS, I have gained the 'Accredited Professional' status, in recognition of my qualifications, knowledge and experience as a therapist.
