I began training in counselling in 1998 and have worked in the area of anxiety and depression for twenty years. During that time I've seen that people are born resilient and our culture undermines that resilience and causes people to lose confidence in their ability to cope with difficult situations.
As well as my private counselling practice, I've also worked for fifteen years with families, parents, children and young people, in early years settings, children's centres, primary and secondary schools, youth services, agencies and clinics. As a result of this, I discovered that from a young age, people are encouraged to play safe; follow expectations and rules, avoid taking risks or being unique. Playing safe leads to a loss of confidence in your ability to trust your gut, handle change, major challenges and make difficult decisions.
I now work in private practice with adults experiencing a wide range of issues such as loss and grief, stress and anxiety, depression and negative coping mechanisms. I also specialise in working with people with anxiety and those who would regard themselves as shy, or sensitive both currently or/and as a child.
Realign Counselling is my own unique holistic approach based on 20 years of research and experience of working with people from birth to old age. I've developed a system that teaches you various tools and simple steps that help you get back in control of your life, feel happier and navigate your way through life with confidence, calm and clarity.
The fundamental theory of Realign Counselling is that we all have an 'inner self', it's the home of our gut feelings and instincts and it's this that guides us in making choices and decisions. However our 'outer self' (ie us in the world, what we do, where we're from, the story of us) is impacted, influenced and programmed by our experiences in childhood, our parents, education and school life, relationships, society, the media and circumstances/traumas/or loss in our lives.
This can cause us to become disjointed and misaligned from our 'inner self'. As a result we can feel we have lost our Mojo, held ourselves back, made poor decisions, or we begin to feel stressed, overwhelmed, lost, stuck, confused and/or unfulfilled.
The further away we are from our 'inner self' the more anxious, hopeless and depressed we can feel. Life then becomes Groundhog Day where we just go through the motions of daily life and lose our sense of purpose. If this goes on long enough we can begin to wonder if anyone would even care if we weren't even here anymore.
The good news is, that we never become detached from our 'inner self', it is part of who we are, we simply need to refocus and realign these key aspects of ourselves.
I can show you how to feel more in alignment with who you are, with simple steps and tools that can quickly help you feel happier, calmer, more confident, in control and more resilient to cope with life's challenges.
