Key Worker CounsellingMates in Mind

Everyone is unique, and it is important that you the potential client feel able to connect with, and can trust the counsellor with whom you are looking to share some of your more personal life experiences and/or issues with.

I have been a qualified accredited counsellor since 2015. I am trained in an integrated approach to counselling; which means I can use a number of different counselling approaches and techniques when working with a client.

One of my areas of expertise is Bereavement and Loss;

I have worked as a Bereavement Counsellor at a Hospice for 5 years supporting Parents, Siblings and Grandparents who have experienced the death of a baby or child through either a life limiting condition, or through a sudden and/or traumatic incident.

As a result some individuals will present with additional issues besides grief, for example depression, anxiety, loss of identity or trauma related symptoms.

Prior to my current role I was also a volunteer counsellor for another local hospices bereavement service. I supported adults following the death of another significant adult; be that of a spouse, parent, sibling or close friend.

I also worked as a volunteer counsellor with a service called Talking Spaces and took clients referred by the Supporting Victims Service. This enabled me to gain experience of supporting individuals presenting with a variety of complex issues.

As a trained counsellor I have worked with individuals, couples and with groups either face -to- face or via telephone or online via the Microsoft Teams and the Zoom platform; so I can be flexible with how I work with a client.

Some of the issues I have worked with are listed in the "what I can help with" section along with other topics I feel confident in working with.

I have also used counselling skills throughout the 15 years that I worked professionally before qualifying as a Counsellor.

I have worked in both the Charity and Local Authority sectors supporting children, young people and adults in my various roles.

These include working with; Women and Children escaping Domestic Abuse, Young Carers and Parent Carers, Young People when I worked as a Youth Worker and as a Youth Mentor, Looked after Children, Care Leavers and Young Offenders.

Having had both personal life experience; as well as all the years of professional work experience, I feel I am equipped to deal with most things that I am presented with and if not, I am self-aware enough to know my own limitations so would not work with anything I was not confident with.

I have completed numerous training courses to support the work that I have done, and I continue to look for new courses to help me in my practice, as I believe in life you never stop learning.

I would describe my counselling approach as professional but flexible as I know from experience one counselling style does not suit everyone.

I also like to build a bespoke package of support for each person I work with as no two people are the same and this is something we can discuss together.

I would describe myself as a people person; empathic, approachable, trustworthy, a good listener, and I genuinely care about my work and those I work with.

I am based at home (about 6 miles from Harrogate) and have a counselling room in the garden that is both private and welcoming. I am insured and have an enhanced DBS certificate.

Currently I am available evenings and weekends. Please get in touch for further information, or to book an appointment or free initial telephone consultation.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, I look forward to hearing from you.
