Everyone is unique, and it is important that you the potential client feel able to connect with, and can trust the counsellor with whom you are looking to share your personal information and experiences with.
To help you decide if I am that counsellor, here is some information relating to my work in practice.
I have been a qualified accredited counsellor since 2015. I have experience of working with adults, children and young people, and in 2022, I was accepted on to the Children and Young People's Therapist Accredited Register (CYPT).
I am trained in an integrated approach to counselling; which means I can use a number of different counselling approaches and techniques when working with a client.
As a trained counsellor I work with individuals, couples and with groups either face -to- face or via telephone or online.
Some of the issues I have worked with are listed in the "what I can help with" section. However, if you need more reassurance on my competence for your particular reason for accessing therapy, please contact me to discuss.
One of my areas of expertise is Bereavement and Loss.
Until recently I worked for 6 years at a Children's Hospice, supporting Parents, Siblings and Grandparents who had experienced the death of a baby, child or young person through either a life limiting condition, or through a sudden and/or traumatic incident.
Prior to this role I was a volunteer counsellor for another local hospice supporting adults following the death of another significant adult; be that of a spouse, parent, sibling or close friend.
I also worked as a volunteer counsellor for a service called Talking Spaces and had clients referred by the Supporting Victims Service. This enabled me to gain valuable experience of supporting individuals presenting with a variety of issues.
Before qualifying as a professional counsellor, I used counselling skills throughout the 15 years that I worked in both the Charity and Local Authority sectors, supporting children, young people and adults in my various roles.
My experience includes supporting Women and Children escaping Domestic Abuse, Young Carers and Parent Carers, Young People when I worked as a Youth Worker and as a Youth Mentor. I have also supported Looked after Children, Care Leavers and Young Offenders.
Having had both personal life experience; as well as all the years of professional work experience, I feel I am well equipped to work competently and to know my own limitations in relation to my work in practice.
I have completed numerous training courses and CPD modules to support the work that I do, as I believe in life you never stop learning.
My counselling approach, is tailored to the needs of the individual/s I am working with as I know from experience, one counselling style does not suit everyone.
I would describe myself as empathic, approachable, trustworthy, a good listener, and I genuinely care about my work and those that I work with.
I am based at home (about 6 miles from Harrogate) and have a counselling room in the garden that is both private, warm and welcoming. I am insured and have an enhanced DBS certificate.
Please get in touch for further information, or to book an appointment or free initial telephone consultation.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, I look forward to hearing from you.
