I was trained in integrative counselling with a person-centred focus and this is how I continue to work.
I worked as a Hospice Bereavement Counsellor for 7 years, working with loss and a fairly complicated case load comprising baby bereavement, survivors of suicide, adolescents, complicated and compound grief.
Within private practice I have worked with a wide range of issues and people with my practice being fairly evenly split between adolescents (12-21 year olds) and adults. I have worked with family and relationship issues, personal development, grief, anxiety to name but a few and am a firm believer you do not need an 'issue' to come for counselling. I think each and every one of us could really benefit from an hour a week to offload and talk about what's really going on for us to an experienced and neutral professional that can truly hear and hold what it is they are being told.
Personally I have had over 10 years of counselling and continue to see it as a valuable tool to process what is going on for me and learn about myself.
Alongside practicing counselling I was also a counselling tutor on a level 5 diploma for a number of years, which I loved.
if you are looking for a counsellor and are not sure what counselling is all about - remember that you are a paying customer purchasing a service and it needs to work for you - don't be afraid to book initial consultations with various therapists and see who you think you will work best with. For exactly this purpose I offer a free initial consultation.
As well as Counselling I have other therapy qualifications in Hypnotherapy, Reflexology and Massage and offer holistic therapies to support fertility, pregnancy and related loss.
