After many years of working with children and families I made the decision to become a Counselor, I had really begun to notice a change in society and an increase in people unable to cope with the stresses of modern day life. Accessing support with conditions such as anxiety, stress, depression and other social conditions was becoming harder and harder.
Unfortunately with conditions like these the lack of psychical symptoms made for a lack of understanding and support, leaving people unable to get the right support and their lives spiraling out of control.
I use a wide range of skills to enable my clients to move forward with their life and a combination of approaches. I am very solution focussed which means I will often give you tools and strategies for you to try between sessions to enable you to bring about change.
I am a Psychotherapeutic counsellor which looks at the importance of past experiences shaping present behavior. In addition to this I also will use person centered counselling which by building unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence helps you as a client grow in your own way which is a gentle approach to therapy.
Sometimes clients wish to just move forward without exploring the past and this is where I would use CBT cognitive behavioral therapy. This focuses on current problems, rather than the past issues and aims to change the way clients think and behave to help them deal with their problems in a more positive way.
I have for the past 3 years been working with a small team of therapists for the NHS working specfically around sexual trauma as a result of both historic and recent events , this again was working very much in a solution focussed way getting clients to find ways to manage the impact that trauma is having on all aspects of daily life, but also understanding why and what happens to us after trauma and the science behind it, this method of work isn't about revisting it, its about moving on for it, going forwards and not backwards.
I am also a qualified Hypnotherapist and if you so wish, can use this during therapy. This can give clients control back of their lives and help overcome many things such as social anxieties, fears phobias and many more debilitating conditions.
My main practice is on the outskirts of Poringland where I work from a log cabin in my garden, this gives my clients a calm and relaxing atmosphere which I feel aids my work as a therapist and gives you a safe secure environment for your therapy.
I do also work at the well-being centre which is in the centre of Norwich close to the Theatre Royal.
I can book a room when needed, though a slightly increased rate is applied to cover room costs, this can
be arranged on request.
