Key Workers CounsellingMates in Mind

First and foremost as a counsellor I offer you my attention, respect and acceptance of where you may be in your life right now, providing support as you move at your own pace, towards your choice of destination.

Working from from home therapy room in Settle in the Yorkshire Dales, I am a qualified counsellor who integrates different counselling techniques, depending on the needs and aspirations of my clients. Most importantly however, I believe in the power of positive action and therefore I specialise in combining counselling and life coaching skills to provide a fully supportive experience for clients, ensuring they not only understand their situation, but are supported to identify and put in place the changes they want to make.
How does it work?
Counselling provides a safe and supportive space, using listening, empathy and understanding to help you recognise how you feel, your emotional response to certain situations and your behaviours. It focuses on past experiences and how they may have brought you to your present situation. Counselling also helps you to come to terms with your past so that you are ready to move forward.
Life coaching skills then help you to clarify what you want to change, identify goals, work to understand barriers to moving forward and provide support to move through an achievable, structured action plan. Help can also be given to identify issues with motivation and commitment to ensure change is maintained.
Being a very creative person myself I also like to offer other creative ways of exploring feelings such an emotion cards and art therapy which can be particularly useful for people who are ‘stuck’ and need a way to express themselves practically rather than with words.

Appointments are available during the day and can also be arranged in the early evenings and weekends for the convenience of those people who are busy during the day.
