I am an integrative counsellor with a strong leaning to the Psychodynamic model, however, I am able to offer CBT and Person Centred counselling also. I prefer to have a whole holistic approach when working with clients and when necessary or more importantly applicable (with the clients consent) I may use an approach which involves other family members or close/relevant parties attending the session.
Since 2010 I have been on a journey, a journey that has taken me from being an operational Police Sergeant to being a Psychotherapy Counsellor.
In 2011 a close family member lost their battle with alcoholism, My personal experience around this changed me completely, I realised that those who were self-medicating were doing so for a reason and that the system was setting them up to fail.
At this stage in my life (2014) I embarked on a training course to gain my level 4 diploma in Psychotherapy which I have now completed and qualified. I intend to continue my studies for a further six months to enhance my qualification to a level 5.
I have now diversified into general mental health awareness which I have delivered to Police, local transport authority staff, schools and other organisations.
I also attend at Hope University and now deliver basic mental health awareness and wellbeing to NQT’s (newly qualified teachers) and RQT’s (recently qualified teachers) as part of a CPD event at the university.
I have recently completed a “train the Trainer” course for Suicide Prevention which is a 3 hour session that tackles the stigma, taboo and all round fear that talking about suicide brings.
