Feeling anxious and overwhelmed and want more than just talking therapy? I combine talking therapy with body-based (Polyvagal) practices to help you to return to a state where you can think clearly, feel calm and take back greater control of your life. Trauma healing requires more than just talking therapy.
Situations such as health issues, work pressures, relationship difficulties, or bereavement all test our resilience and our coping mechanisms. You are not alone and you can be supported to recover from distressing setbacks.
As a Trauma Informed Therapist I use a mind-body approach of Top Down (Talking Therapy) and Bottom Up Processing (Body-Based Polyvagal Therapy) to teach you how you can train your nervous system to unlearn automatic responses and recalibrate it to become fully functional and resilient.
Together we will explore the presenting problems and other underlying issues that contribute to what’s going on for you right now. In order for this to happen, I will help and support you to gain a better understanding of your physical symptoms, feelings and thought processes. I will teach you how to calm your own nervous system to find your own solutions to problems in a perceptive and insightful way.
The way that I work is not a one-size fits all, I will tailor each session to suit your unique, specific needs and requirements.
In your 1:1 sessions I will support you to:
understand your physical symptoms and why you feel the way you do
learn fast and effective body practices to calm your nervous system
feel more empowered and harness your own internal resources
gain insight to new perspectives and problem solving
enjoy greater wellbeing and health
feel more at home in your body again
You will learn about your vagus nerve and how “stress-related illness” such as anxiety, depression, gut disorders, autoimmune issues and chronic pain can arise from nervous system dysregulation after chronic or traumatic stress.
The vagus nerve is key to a multitude of physiological functions that underpin everything from your mental and physical wellbeing, to maintaining relationships and your general happiness.
If you experience feeling anxious, fidgety, angry, reactive and hyper-vigilant your nervous system is wired and dysregulated.
If you experience feeling burnt out, unmotivated, exhausted, withdrawn and shut down, your nervous system is tired and dysregulated.
A healthy nervous system is not always calm, it is adaptable. In our life we will experience some stress, challenges, adversity, and failure. A healthy nervous system that is given the opportunity to fully recover from stress activation becomes more adaptable, resilient and flexible. I will teach you how to do fast and effective neural practices that will re-tune and regulate your nervous system. Regulation means you learn to coax your nervous system back to a healthier state that allows you to cope better with life. You have more options; you can see different perspectives and you have greater agency in shaping your life.
This mind-body approach will help you to find your sense of self, let go of old unhelpful patterns and make positive changes by thinking or acting differently, strengthening your relationships, improving your confidence and self-esteem and feeling equipped to take greater control of your life.

CAROLINE KING THERAPY
I am an Integrative Trauma Informed Coach, Counsellor and Psychotherapist and I in my previous careers I have also gained the following qualifications: Clinical Hypnotherapist, Fitness Professional, Holistic Bodyworker, and Trainer.
During my 30 year career in health and wellbeing, I've lived and worked around the world helping people to feel more at home in their body again. My continued interest in neurobiology has meant that I have always felt it is necessary to attend to both the physiological and psychological elements of therapy.
The autonomic nervous system is the foundation for all of our lived experience - the mind and body are integrated and inseparable, and I have created a way of bringing Polyvagal theory into therapy and continue to study new practices. Creating a better mind-body connection is pivotal to good physical, mental and emotional health. My holistic treatment plan considers your specific individual needs and personal circumstances to help you move to a calmer, more confident place within yourself.
