The healing effect of sharing a problem, saying it out loud, not having to carry it alone, is what drew me to train as a Counsellor and leave my career after 23 years as a Diagnostic Radiographer. Working within the hospital environment and meeting staff, patients, carers and families at different stages of their lives increased my understanding for the need for counselling and deepened my desire to become a Counsellor.
A key element to the success of counselling is the relationship between Counsellor and Client. Both need to feel comfortable working with each other and have a sense that they are the right fit to share this very personal journey. With this in mind I offer a free initial consultation where this assessment can be made. You get a feel of what it might be like to work with me and I check that my skill set matches your need. As an accredited member of the National Counselling Society you can be reassured of my commitment to working ethically, professionally and within my capabilities.
Clients have often remarked on the benefit of sharing their thoughts and feelings with a third party, not having to worry about being an emotional burden or the impact of offloading. Having a safe, understanding, non-judgmental environment enables you the space and clarity to explore and work through whatever is bothering you. I work with clients who present with; anxiety, bereavement, lowered self confidence and self worth, loss and grief, palliative care, insomnia, relationship issues and stress to mention but a few. I also volunteer at a local Hospice providing Bereavement Counselling to patients, carers and the bereaved.
