Having experienced first hand the power of talking therapies I decided to change professions, from nursing to counselling. I am trained in an integrative approach which means that I have knowledge and experience of working in a variety of ways. I realise the importance of being able to fit therapy to suit the client rather than fitting the client to the therapy and my integrative training allows me to do this. I have experience of working with clients using the following modalities: Person Centred Counselling, Humanistic, CBT, Psychodynamic, Gestalt and Object Relations Therapy. My main persuasion is the Person Centred Approach. I see you the client as an expert in your own life and am interested to learn your motivations for coming to counselling. I aim to provide a safe and confidential space whereby together we can explore the reasons that have brought you to this point in your life.
I am able to work in a time limited way to address more specific issues, or I can offer open ended counselling if you are looking to work at a deeper level.
I appreciate that deciding to undertake counselling can feel like a frightening prospect, and finding the right counsellor with whom you can strike up a good rapport may seem quite daunting. As such, I would suggest we start by having a brief telephone chat whereby you can tell me a little bit about what brings you to counselling and we can get a feel as to whether I may be the right person to support you. Should you decide to proceed with counselling i will arrange an initial consultation so that we can get to know one another a little better. This meeting will include some form filling although this will be kept to a minimum. I would suggest that we look at arranging 6 sessions, and review our work together at the end of this period with a view to continuing if that feels right.
I am very aware that the success of therapy is largely down to the rapport between Client and Counsellor, and as such look forward to meeting you and starting to build a therapeutic relationship through which you can start to work on what brings you to therapy.
