I work with a range of clients including young children and adolescents with social, emotional and behavioural challenges . When working with children of primary school age I encourage the parent to join the sessions so that they are able to continue to support their children in using specific strategies out of sessions. During my Child Mental Health training at St George’s Medical School I came across the term ‘A child with a behaviour problem is a child trying to solve a problem but getting it wrong’ . I aim to help both the child and parent identify and solve the problems that are causing the behavioural challenges using a collaborative and proactive approach. Dr Ross Greene author of The Explosive Child constantly reminds us ‘Kids do well if they can’. My therapeutic approach supports this theme. I also offer Parenting advice sessions specifically for children 0-5 years.
