So, do you feel disconnected from yourself, others and the world? If so, has your 'emotional suitcase' now become too heavy to lift?

If so, life may feel something like this:

Overwhelming.
Relationships have become strained or are breaking down.
It has become difficult to voice what you need.
You feel depressed, angry, anxious or your self-esteem is low.
You have lost your way.
You have an internal critic that is really mean.

Sometimes communication within our relationships breaks down, which can create conflict, distance and pain. Our worries may seem jumbled up or like they are growing bigger and unmanageable by the day. It can, therefore, become very difficult to make sense of ourselves, other people, our emotions, behaviours and even our lives. We may take our pain inward or outward onto those around us.

So, you may need some help to:

Unpack your case
Sort through the contents
Find clarity

As human beings relationships are really important to us. As infants we are wired to attach and belong in order to survive and develop. We have relationships with everything and everyone, including ourselves and relationships can bring us much happiness and fulfilment. However, when they go wrong, we have difficult life events, or we lose someone we can feel incredibly anxious, sad or angry and it may feel like everything is just falling apart. We may turn our pain inwards to ourselves or outwards to the world.

Sometimes it may be very difficult to talk to family and friends about this because we fear judgement or being a burden, or maybe we just don't want to.

So what is counselling?

Counselling is your time to work through what may be keeping you stuck so that you can then move forward in the way you want to. It is a place where we learn about ourselves and others around us. In our busy lives we may not have the time to think or to process anything, we may be rushing from one thing to another. Maybe we have a demanding family or job or maybe we just need a trained therapist to be with us because things feel difficult to face alone. In counselling you will have this space, free from interruptions, to focus on you. It’s your time for self care.

So, if you have decided that counselling is something that you would like to try, you may be feeling anxious about opening up to someone you don’t know. This is a big first step and if you haven’t had any counselling before it may feel difficult. So, apart from looking for a counsellor who holds the right qualifications, it is important that you feel comfortable with them.

  • Qualifications & Experience
My training was integrative to Foundation Level, which means that I have studied a variety of counselling theories, psychology and science modules.

I am also an Accredited Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and, along with NCS, work to their ethical guidelines.

I have worked in bereavement, with anxiety and depression, relationship problems, with trauma, with people who find communicating difficult, have low self-esteem and with people who feel lost, or just want to understand why they think, feel and behave the way that they do.

Continued professional development (CPD) is something that I am passionate about and I take up various training courses throughout the year to deepen my knowledge. However, in summary I have undertaken training in couples, Transactional Analysis, Trauma Focused Therapy (New Haven Competencies) and am trained in the Compassionate Inquiry approach (Gabor Mate). I am Internal Family Systems informed and have completed a Level 5 qualification in Attachment Based Psychotherapy.

So, If you would like someone to work with you to help you find clarity, then please contact me in confidence, either by email or my mobile.
