Hi, my name is Andy and I am a counsellor based in Brislington in south Bristol - not too far from the Brislington Retail Park.
I consider myself to be a Pluralistic therapist, meaning that I take into account theories and techniques from person-centred, cognitive and psychodynamic approaches to therapy, although I primarily work in a person-centred fashion. I adopt a collaborative stance on my work with my clients, meaning that we work together and discuss ideas and options regarding the therapy to establish what approaches and techniques might work best to facilitate the therapy.
Although I am not an art therapist, I do sometimes incorporate artistic or creative approaches into the work, where I think this would be appropriate. The purpose of doing so would be discussed with my clients before starting out in order to manage expectations and to understand how this might help the work. These techniques might include shells or small world work, Gestalt techniques, creative writing, or drawing.
- Qualifications & ExperienceI have a foundation degree in integrative Counselling from the University of Plymouth (in academic partnership with City of Bristol College) - awarded with distinction.
