My name is Denise Brent. I am an experienced, NCPS accredited Integrative Counsellor, Trainer and Supervisor. I work in private practice, and I also have experience of working in the voluntary sector in both clinical and managerial roles.

My interest in Counselling and Psychotherapy stems in part from my own life experiences, and also from a belief that we each hold within us the potential for emotional, physical and spiritual growth and fulfillment.

There are times in our lives when situations and experiences can feel overwhelming, can lead us to feel stuck, or can cause us to experience difficulties in managing our emotions. This can be the result of immediate life events such as bereavement, relationship difficulties or change, but we may also experience these challenges when we connect with unresolved experiences from the past, or in times when we are questioning or evaluating our life direction and sense of purpose. Counselling can provide helpful support in attending to these difficulties. For more immediate, one off issues, counselling may be shorter term. Subsequently, when there is a need or desire to work with issues of the past, perhaps where difficulties stem from childhood, counselling can be a process of support and exploration which spans over a longer timeframe.

I am experienced in both long term and brief time-limited work. I work with adult clients and have experience of working with a wide range of issues, although have found over time that I work more and more often with clients who have experienced trauma and/or attachment difficulties.

Alongside my clinical work I have gained extensive experience working as a Counselling Trainer / Tutor which has led to a particular interest in working clinically with those themselves training to become counsellors or psychotherapists, and those who are newly qualified. I have significant experience in teaching and mentoring therapists in training, and understand the many factors, challenges and implications of training in this field. Undertaking personal therapy as part of a professional qualification can be a challenge due to the ongoing pressures of the training environment. I am passionate about providing a safe and focussed clinical space where trainee therapists can explore all aspects of themselves, their history, their training journey and their emotional difficulties and resources.

** Please note: I do not offer to work with the following client groups:

Those actively engaged in sexually offending behaviour; those suffering from severe, active addictions; those suffering from severe, enduring mental illness; those suffering from marked personality disorders.
