30 years experience as a Counsellor, Dramatherapist, Supervisor & Trainer in Health, Education & Private Practice.
I'm skilled in creating purposeful working alliances that provide clarity of thinking, emotional holding and I work hard to ensure that your therapy is a safe experience.
When words are not enough or too painful to say out loud, we can work creatively. This could be working with art materials, objects, movement, play, storymaking and voice work as these are all powerful ways of finding a way through difficult feelings and emotions.
If we decide to work for an extended period of time, I like to work in blocks of sessions so that we can review and reflect on what's working for you and where you want the focus of the work to be.
Clients and trainers have said that I have a warm disposition and work hard to help people understand and be in control of their therapy.
Our first meeting is vital in finding out if we can usefully work together – finding out what brings you to therapy, the impact of your specific and general difficulties and crucially how you think therapy might help you.
I have worked as a College Counsellor; in Adult Psychiatry (Eating Disorders, BPD, DID as well as people recovering from serious mental illness); residential NHS hospitals for people with profound and multiple learning disability; Older People with Alzheimer’s & Dementia.
I am also a freelance Barnardos therapist supporting Asylum Seekers; Children & Young People and their families in crisis. I recently qualified as an Adoption Support Counsellor.
I work from home with a dedicated therapy room, waiting area for parents/guardians and parking.
