I am a person-centred integrative counsellor with a background in the education sector.
I have experience of working with clients aged 7 to 70+, having worked in primary and secondary schools, a university and for a charity supporting carers. I also bring a wealth of knowledge and skills from my career in education as a SENDCo and primary school head.
I teach a level 4 counselling diploma course alongside my work in schools and private practice. I was also involved in the development of the National Counselling Society’s Competency Framework for working with children by writing the section on supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
I believe every person has the ability to thrive given the right conditions; as a counsellor I am passionate about supporting clients in finding strategies to create those conditions. A reflective and flexible practitioner, I try to adapt my approach in response to my client's needs; therefore, I may introduce techniques such as CBT, Gestalt, sand tray and mindfulness as appropriate.
When supporting children, I recognise the importance of working in collaboration with parents and schools, and I am happy to liaise with families and professionals in order to achieve the best outcomes for the child.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is key to successful therapy and the first steps on any counselling journey are very important. Therefore, I suggest we have an introductory session to discuss what you are looking for from counselling sessions and for me to explain a little more about how I work and answer any questions you may have. You can then decide whether I may be the right counsellor to support you through therapy.
