Hi, I am Joanna. I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist accredited by the National Counselling Society with an Advanced Certificate in Relationship Therapy accredited by COSRT (College of Sexual Relationship Therapists). I provide in person and on-line counselling services to adult individuals and couples from my welcoming, fully insured practice in Debden, 3 miles from Saffron Walden in Essex.

As is the case for most of us, life has presented me with many personal challenges.  Over the years, counselling has enabled me to not only cope in difficult times, but to learn about myself and grow into the person that I am today. It is my first-hand experience of the transformative power of therapy which fuels my passion to help my clients to work through their own challenges and evolve. Following a career in the city, many years working and raising a family, some major personal traumas and a lot of therapy, I decided to train to become a counsellor and psychotherapist. And here I am today, working with a diverse range of clients, helping them deal with their personal challenges and move towards self awareness, self acceptance, growth, change and peace.

I have experience working with individuals who are facing a wide range of issues including those related to their relationships, grief, loss, life change, self esteem, stress, anxiety, identity and self sabotaging behaviours. I have a keen interest and extensive experience in challenges that arise from relationships of any kind. I work with individuals and couples who may be dealing with crises such as infidelity, divorce or sexual issues. I also work with couples who are perhaps dissatisfied or frustrated in other areas of their relationship and maybe feel a bit "stuck", supporting them to gain a clearer vision of the relationship they wish for themselves and the steps they need to take to attain it.

In counselling terms, my approach is "pluralistic".  This simply means that I combine a number of different therapeutic methods to create an approach that is tailored to your individual preferences and needs. As well as providing you with a confidential, empathetic, judgement free space in which to access and work through your feelings, we can also use practical tools and techniques which can help you cope with difficult emotions and situations in the present.  We can also explore past experiences and relationships helping you to gain a deeper understanding of how they may have influenced your thoughts, emotions and behaviours in the present.

I know from experience that seeking help when we need it can be overwhelming. But, whatever issues you are facing and whatever your goals for therapy, you can be assured of a welcoming, professional, supportive and safe counselling relationship. I am very happy to have a no obligation phone conversation with you before you decide if you would like to book an initial session.
