I have created a comfortable safe place in a natural environment away from the troubles of the world which gives you the opportunity to explore and understand the difficulties you are experiencing.
I work in a person centred way, which puts you at the heart of the therapeutic process. Together we work at your pace, within your agenda, confidentially and without judgement. I use various techniques, visual tools and enjoy working creatively with my clients to enable them to move forwards in their lives.
As counselling is an unregulated profession, it is important to check who you see has the correct credentials and has been trained in a professional and proficient manner. I am a CPCAB (Counselling & Psychology Central Awarding Body) level 4 qualified counsellor, this means I have gone through considerable in depth training, have been deemed competent by various professionals and sat through rigorous examinations in order to qualify. I have worked as a counsellor within the NHS York Teaching Hospitals Trust helping bariatric patients and currently volunteer at the NHS Humber Foundation Trust as a staff counsellor. As a counsellor, I am required to undertake monthly Supervision, rather like counselling but for counsellors to ensure I am working for my clients safely and ethically.
I feel it is important to share and encourage people to consider what counselling can do for them. It was my own difficult life experiences which led me to seek counselling. For many years I didn't feel right within myself and the world but didn't understand why. It was counselling which gave me the opportunity to explore and work through past events which had led to the way I felt about myself and the world. The counselling process transformed my life and I was then able to live a happier and more fulfilling life.
The counselling process fascinated me, and I was curious to explore more about it which led me to attending a level two counselling skills course, this progressed to level three and then I was prepared to undertake the two-year training that is required for level four.
I have created a light, bright and comfortable space within my well tended 'secret' garden which I have enjoy creating to share with others and give a home to wildlife. Personally, I feel it is important to have a connection with the natural world and the tremendous things it can offer. Nature's ability to regenerate and flourish in the most difficult of conditions is remarkable, I believe the same is possible with us as individuals.
Asides from counselling you may notice I really enjoy gardening which was my former career. I strongly believe in the power of nature to restore and heal I also enjoy drawing and painting, some of which I use in my counselling work.
