About me - Hello, my name is Susan Jones, I am a qualified Counsellor. There is a strong person-centred element to the way I work, although I also combine different therapies, Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as well as Psychodynamic approach according to the need of the individual. I believe every person has the resources within them to grow and become more fulfilled.

My approach - is to help create a relationship in which you feel supported. This makes it possible for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a way that feels safe.

My purpose is to help you resolve emotional issues and improve your mental health and a sense of well-being, all in a supportive and safe space.

My goal is to help you see things in a new way, to help you have fulfilling relationships with others and yourself, and to help you find relief from anxiety, depression, trauma and other things that prevent you from enjoying a full life. I have learnt over the years that it is a privilege to be listened to and heard and similarly it is privilege to listen and hear. So by listening to you I believe in empowering you to take an active role in your therapeutic journey, tailoring my approach to meet your unique needs and preferences.

Who do I work with

I work with adults of all ages and from a wide variety of backgrounds.

What to expect

I work online as well as face to face. I have premises in Neath and Llanelli area. After our initial assessment session, I usually suggest that we meet for 6 - 10 sessions, at the same time each week. Many clients find this brief, focused work extremely helpful.

For some clients, this initial work lays the ground for longer term therapy, looking in more depth, at complex or deeply rooted issues. However, I am happy to work with clients on both short and long-term work.

Training, qualifications & experience

My counselling experience has been gained through working in a GP Practice, offering 1:1 counselling sessions to individuals with a diverse range of mental health issues such as anger management, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, domestic abuse, bereavement and suicidal thoughts
I have a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice and I am a Registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I work to the NCPS Ethical Framework, and I am committed to my self-development as a therapist, undertaking regular training and supervision.
