I’m Jon, and I work with people like you to reduce their anxiety and feel better about themselves by making positive change in their lives.

Many of the messages I have received in my life seemed to add up to one thing – I will never amount to anything. I had to act a certain way to be loved. I had to be a certain type of person to fit in. I had to support this team, join this club, live my life how others wanted. This meant I spent quite a big part of my life feeling as if I was not good enough, and then feeling isolated as I couldn’t tell anyone.

Once I worked out what was really going on for me, once I got the help I needed, it led me into wanting to help people just like you.

I am a person-centred counsellor, which means that the work we do together is shaped by you. You are the only expert on what makes you happy, sad, or anxious. I will not decide what is best for you. I will not try to fix you. We will work as a team to explore your feelings and emotions, allowing you to begin to understand them and decide what you wish to do with them.

There will not be any homework, no advice, no philosophical clichés and, most importantly, no judgment. Your background, relationships and experiences have all shaped who you are right now, and I will accept you as you are, from the moment I meet you until the time we finish our work together.

There is no right or wrong way to do counselling, no pressure to be anyone other than yourself at any time, and no shame if you struggle with it. It can be tough going sometimes, but extremely powerful. I think there is something remarkable about being able to talk to someone you can completely trust not to judge you, and the act of speaking words we have never voiced before can be so liberating.
