Key Worker CounsellingMates in Mind

I'm Paula, I'm 40, I'm based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire and all of who you are is welcome with me.

The therapeutic relationship that we create between us is where the healing takes place and in working with me you will experience a warm and welcoming space for you to share, contemplate, pause and process what is going on for you. There will be a surprising amount of laughter too, its not all heavy-going! I offer a holistic approach to assist your mind and body in moving from survival mode to rest, relaxation, healing and wellbeing.

I started to meet with counselling clients in 2014 and became a full-time counsellor in May 2020 after a twenty-year corporate career in oil and gas, working in both Aberdeen and Edinburgh. I maintain my wellbeing through swimming, yoga, meditation, journaling, dance, breathwork and therapy (as well as pizza and Netflix!) so that I can be as present as possible with you in our session.

Each session will unfold depending on how you’re feeling in yourself that day, what you’d like to achieve and where we are in the process …

~ in the initial meetings we will likely move through the story and details of your experience and I’ll help you to understand how your mind and body work together in supporting you through life (even when it feels like they’re working against you and each other!): initial sessions are weekly or fortnightly

~ moving beyond the initial sessions you will experience increased resilience and will start to make changes in your life from the inside out: sessions are usually fortnightly from this point

~ when you are feeling much more like yourself and able to move through the world with more ease and joy (it comes, I promise - I couldn’t do this work if I didn’t believe in the possibility of my clients feeling better in themselves) then we will say cheerio or move to monthly / ad-hoc sessions

I’m unable to offer a timeline for how many sessions will be beneficial for you but I will assure you that you’ll know when it’s time to finish or move into maintenance sessions … it’s always lovely when it happens, especially when we reflect on how you were feeling when we first started working together.

In addition to talk therapy I'm very happy to offer sessions that include a blend of the following practices and materials to assist you in your journey of healing and expansion, your journey back to “you”:

~ Yoga, movement and breathwork for unwinding and supporting body and mind

~ Meditation guidance and practice

~ Sound healing for relaxation and integration

~ Self-care and wellbeing practices

~ Resources and references follow-up after most sessions

Whatever you are going through, it will be my privilege and honour to serve and assist you in any way I can.

You're very welcome to book an introductory call with me and I’m happy to offer daytime or evening sessions on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays (please check the Fees section for more information and my Cancellation and Rescheduling Agreement)
