Emotional Therapeutic Counselling is a humanistic and person-centred therapy.
By working with me I hope to bring you helpful ways of looking at your inner world that are explorative and feel right for you. Emotional Therapeutic Counselling has helped many people in many areas of their lives and helped with depression, anxiety, low self esteem, relationship and communication, anger, abuse, bullying as well as trauma.
I was drawn to Emotional Therapeutic Counselling because I was keen to improve my own self awareness and have always been interested in following a path that upholds the emotional wellbeing of others.
Through the course I found great strength and learning and discovered a way of being that was more authentic and self empowering.
One of the aspects of the course which I bring to my work as a therapist are the creative ways in which emotional trauma can be accessed and healed through simple yet effective tools drawing on one’s 'inner child’. The work is based on the teachings of Dr. Lucia Capacchione, an art therapist in 1976 and Penny Parks. The inner child has been imprinted with the do’s and don’ts learnt in childhood which have in a very real way impacted on the adult’s outlook and functioning of every day life.
The work of the inner child is to uncover the experiences that our clients have had as children and to discover with them how their early childhood experiences have influenced their adult lives. Where a child has had a controlling childhood, the layers through these exercises can be revealed to help facilitate a more healthy way of living life.
I bring to my work as a therapist my lived experience of being a mother, a business owner and an artist. Added to that is my multi-cultural background. Born in the Netherlands, I have lived in parts of West Africa and whilst I am based in West Sussex I continue to have a strong ties to those roots.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Emotional Therapeutic Counselling and am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society. I have regular supervision, and am fully insured.
Through a creative collaboration, I hope to shed light to our sessions that will bring self awareness and healing into your life through creative dialogue and utilising some of the exercises that we draw on as practitioners of Emotional therapeutic counselling.
We are living in a time of uncertainty around the pandemic and for those wishing to schedule a session with me, I would be happy to facilitate this by a number of means with out door walk and talk either around my ponies or elsewhere, Indoor zoom sessions or dependant on what tier we are in socially distanced person to person.
Creativity is part of my life, I am a practising professional bookbinder alongside my work as a counsellor and have a love of arts and crafts. I am also a music student of the 21 stringed African harp, the kora. I love animals and own two ponies, two dogs and a cat.
I believe that that with my life experiences I can bring a calm, healing perspective to my clients.
