I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, University of London. I have also undertaken additional training with Tavistock Relationships, City Lit, the Open University and Counselling Tutor, including a specialist certificate in online and telephone counselling.

My practice is primarily psychodynamic; it's based on the idea that the ‘psyche’ – a difficult word to translate, encompassing the self, thoughts, emotions, soul and mind – is constantly active and changing. Psychodynamic theory states that part of the mind is unconscious, and that experiences during childhood shape the way in which a person behaves, thinks and experiences life. The aim of counselling is to understand the link between now and the past, and to bring previously unconscious ideas and feelings into conscious awareness. In this way, deep emotional insight and self-understanding is gained, so that difficulties can be overcome, relationships are improved, and feelings can be better managed.

I firmly believe that counselling is about more than just resolving problems, so I also draw on humanist, existential, positive psychology, mindfulness, creative and other approaches to help clients feel more contented, accepting and integrated. Through the nurturance and support of a therapeutic relationship, there is an invaluable opportunity not only to address any current challenges but also to find a sense of meaning and purpose in life and discover what truly makes you happy.

As well as counselling, I work as a ballet teacher, dance examiner and arts journalist. With an MA in Ballet Studies from Roehampton University and more than 15 years’ experience in the dance industry, I have a particular passion for working with dancers and dance students. I'm also a qualified Happiness Facilitator (Museum of Happiness) and Mental Health First Aider (MHFA England).

I see counselling clients for either short-term therapy (6-18 sessions, focusing on one or two issues) or on an open-ended basis (allowing for ongoing exploration). Sessions run for 50 minutes once a week, either face-to-face in Beaconsfield, or via Zoom/telephone.
