I offer counselling for both individuals and couples at my home address in Runcorn. I have a dedicated private counselling room set apart from my house where we can work together in helping you find better self-awareness and ways to make changes and move forward in a manner of your choosing. I can also be mobile and come to you if it’s really impractical for you to get to me, but only on the strict understanding that you are able to guarantee a totally private setting. There is also the option of receiving counselling by telephone for those who live too far away or who feel anxious about meeting in person during the covid pandemic.

Like most counsellors, I have discovered areas of therapeutic work where I feel I’m most helpful to clients. So whilst I consider working with clients on a whole range of issues, I feel I’m of most use in the following areas:

Couples counselling and relationship coaching
Working with mid-life crisis and dilemmas associated with life-stages
Finding personal direction and meaning
Depression
Anxiety
Matters of a sexual nature
Eating disorders
Feelings of inadequacy and never feeling quite good enough
Guilt and Shame
Body confidence and acceptance
Affairs and infidelity
Making decisions
Self-esteem and self-worth
Revealing how your past could be adversely influencing your present day life
Social media and mobile phone dependency, and how it affects your self esteem.
Family matters and past dramas that are still affecting you

I'm happy to work flexibly around your personal commitments or working life, especially if you work shifts or have child-minding dilemmas.

If your main issue is drug addiction, then I may not be the best therapist for you. You are welcome to give me a try but there are other counsellors who have taken specific training in this area who may be more helpful.

If you wish to come with your spouse or partner for relationship counselling, then it’s best if you talk to them about it and get their consent before sending me a message. If your partner is not ready to engage in this type of counselling but you have pressing issues that you still need to talk to somebody about then you are welcome to book in as an individual. As well as covering all the topics you’d expect to find in relationship counselling, like good communication, you’ll also find I am able to talk very openly about matters to do with sex, fantasy, maintaining long-term desire, libido, monogamy, different types of relationships, arousal, the effects of stress, illness and life events on sexual behaviour and desire, erectile dysfunction, variations or difficulties with orgasm, painful sex, unfaithfulness and the notions/expectations that each person brings into the partnership about how this thing called "relationship" is “supposed” to work.

I’m trained to degree level as an integrative counsellor, which means that I carefully consider your individuality and then draw on various counselling models to find an approach that suits you best. I have also completed post-qualification courses on communication, differences and understanding in relationships, and counselling couples after the revelation of an affair. But it all begins with your story, what brings you to counselling, and how I can best understand you and your world. As the sessions unfold, I’ll work with you in helping you gain a greater understanding of what’s been going on, and help and support you when it comes to making your own decisions about the changes you may wish to make.

I don’t charge a premium rate for couples counselling, as the time, effort and preparation are often the same as for individual counselling. I am also aware that many couples are put off from seeking counselling together because they see inflated prices that make it unaffordable. So my fees are per session, not per person.

There is no minimum number of sessions, and you can finish whenever you feel ready to. However, it may be helpful for you to think in terms of at least three sessions and then take it from there, but the choice is always yours. I'll check in with you as we go along to see how its working out for you and if there are struggles you're having or if there are ways or areas you'd like me to concentrate on or adapt to your needs in a more personal way.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE... I first became interested in training to be a counsellor in 2011, following a difficult period in my own life which I now realise was a mid-life crisis, and the beginning of a journey to unravel the first half of my life in order to get some kind of sense as to how I'd like the second half to be. Which parts of my past needed leaving behind, and what new experiences and values did I want to introduce. In part, this has influenced the manner in which I go about helping others, by finding out both what's been working for you, and what's been holding you back from living a more content life. There are threads and elements of helping you find your own philosophy and personal meaning in my counselling, but it is by no means limited to this.

IMPORTANT. If your preferred contact method is by email then please check your spam mail carefully before deleting. My reply could be in there! If you text me then I can usually reply quicker.

If you’d like to enquire further, or you’d like to meet me before deciding, then I offer an optional free face-to-face 30 minute consultation.

I also have a website www.timeoutwellbeing.co.uk and you are welcome to browse and contact me via the site as well as directly through this directory.
