Having both a CBT and counselling background, means I can tailor your treatment to suit your needs.
Previously having worked for a local Low Cost Counselling service and within NHS IAPT services, I have gained experience in treating disorders such as depression, GAD (uncontrollable and excessive worry & anxiety), social anxiety, specific phobias, PTSD, OCD & health anxiety.
Within my own practice, I work online, however for under 18's I can be flexible and home or school visits can be arranged to best suit your needs.
Prior to training as a therapist, my background was working within schools as an Emotional Wellbeing Supporter. Prior to that, I worked as a UNICEF trained Infant Feeding Supporter in a local hospital. Within this role, I always felt privileged to share some of those early moments transitioning in parenthood.
I have a particular passion for working with those who are currently in, or have been victim of emotional abuse and the impact of such trauma.
I take a 'psychoeducational' approach to my work, meaning that whatever you present with, you will leave our treatment with a good understanding of your mind body connection, how to gain some control of that and hopefully an explanation of your current difficulties and how they have come to cause distress.
Being trained as a psychodynamic counsellor, means we can explore meanings behind current patterns of behaviours and be curious as to how the past may be influencing those. The CBT element of my work is very much in the here and now and so this means I can work with you at either level, depending on what you wish to gain from therapy.
I offer a free 15 minute consultation by phone or online to determine if we both think we could be a 'good fit'.
