I practice as an integrative therapist with a strong ACT CBT emphasis.
This therapy increases patients’ psychological flexibility and resilience leading to them being able to live a richer fuller and more meaningful life.
It focusses less on what is wrong with the client and more on how they would like to be.
I have found that when they are focussing on what they want and are spending less time wrestling with what they don’t want, the psychological flexibility that they develop, allows them to move beyond the grip of the symptoms. Many of these symptoms have become part of their identity.
Using this therapy, clients learn to stop focusing on their symptoms and to focus on what it is that they really want in life. They no longer see themselves as victims, and start to see that they have choices.
From this perspective they start to take responsibility for their own lives and are able to develop a way forward that works for them in a way that is important to them.
This bespoke therapy is closely matched to the client needs. I believe this along with a strong therapeutic relationship is crucial for a positive outcome.
