About this trainer

The Foundation for Emotional Therapeutic Counselling is a registered charity. Its aim is to provide professionally trained Emotional Therapeutic Counsellors so that those suffering emotional turmoil, whether brought about by a crisis, long term situation, persistent unhappiness, depression, apathy or relationship difficulties, have access to this type of talking therapy.

We use an emotional, spiritual and inner child model rather than the use of the mind to assist and support clients in acknowledging and dealing with suppressed emotional pain in a healthy and integrated manner. This brings individuals to a greater self-knowledge and personal strength from which they can more effectively cope with, and enrich their lives.

The training programme is experiential and students are trained in a range of techniques that help clients recognise and release painful feelings in a healthy manner. The training is appropriate for those wishing to become qualified Counsellors but also those seeking to increase personal emotional development.

Training comprises three parts:

Part 1 Foundation Level (Ofqual equivalent level 3)

Introduces the theory and practice of Emotional Therapeutic Counselling and introduces techniques used. It is a 10-day course which takes place one weekend per month over 5 months.

Part 2 Diploma Level (Ofqual equivalent level 4)

This level consists of 20 mandatory study days and workshops, designed to prepare a student to begin to practice under supervision. Study days include skills practise to help develop counselling skills and build confidence. Students will be encouraged to secure a placement to begin to build supervised practice hours, and will need to undertake personal therapy. Students are assigned a mentor. Assessment is by invitation and will lead to completion of the Diploma.

Part 3 Advanced Diploma (Ofqual equivalent level 5)

Students are required to build 200 client hours. They will also be required to complete a written assignment and present 3 case studies to a Viva Board. Upon successful completion students may apply for accreditation with the National Counselling Society.
