Hello, my name is Elle, I work face-to-face in Central London. In addition to being a qualified psychotherapist and trauma-informed counsellor, I undertook professional online and teletherapy training in 2020. Thus, I am fully experienced to deliver therapy sessions face-to-face, online or via teletherapy nationwide with clients at Therapy For Those Thoughts, a psychotherapy and counselling private practice based in London.
"Human beings are unique and beautiful because of their individuality"
Therapy For Those Thoughts, (2020)
I work in short-term therapy with individuals in private practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Many clients also come to me in private practice because of my clinical experience of working in 1-2 -year long-term therapy with clients who have experienced childhood trauma. Specifically, and this list is not exhaustive, childhood trauma of abuse related to sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, torture, violence. Some may also have witnessed domestic violence in the home by a significant caregiver to another caregiver.
Chronic Pelvic Pain
Pain in Muscles/Joints
Reliving Traumatic Events
Intergenerational trauma sometimes also called transgenerational trauma is the impact on a generation or generations of an entire family, who are impacted by a past trauma. This can manifest in families, in regards to no or little awareness or avoidance of the severity of impact of said trauma on the family nucleus i.e. 'brushed under the carpet'. Perhaps, it could also be borne out of feelings of shame and societal or cultural stigma of seeking professional help.
In my work, I get to meet and spend my time with phenomenal human beings and survivors of life who have endured or experienced tremendous mental anguish, pain, and sufferance. As a professional practitioner, it always feels humbling that clients have placed their trust in me and why it is my responsibility to facilitate a safe space for my clients to assist them, so they are able at their own pace to unpack and explore their inner most thoughts and unique world.
I am warm and approachable and committed to establishing trust to lay the foundations for you to achieve effective change and growth that you require. The relationship alliance is of paramount to explore and work through difficult thoughts and feelings relating to.
Why might you come to therapy and what could you gain from our sessions?
Life is not always easy, and it may bring up many challenges that can test our resolve and emotions as individuals and couples. It may feel like a never-ending assault course to some, or a person might even start to believe, they trained as a professional juggler and missed the training session on what happens if they drop all or one of those balls!
Maybe it is an existential question bringing you here, of wanting to examine your own life under a microscope for clarity of understanding, a form of personal introspection of analysis of who you were, who are now and who you want to be.
You could also be, one half of a couple who is coming to therapy or indeed both of you could be coming to work on your relationship.
Or maybe you are simply looking for some balance in your life, of wanting to slow down and examine in greater detail what is important to you and what needs to do the journey so you can live a more fulfilled happier life!
Throughout our sessions, you will learn how you tick, what you need and ultimately, achieve a better understanding of the most important person in your life, you! Don't worry if you cannot find the words or have absolutely no idea who the real you are buried deep within, you will after our sessions together.
I work collaboratively, to address issues impacting you daily, by looking at your individual coping mechanisms, defensive mechanisms, and patterns of behaviour. Using my professional knowledge and experience to assist you in replacing some of those unhelpful old ones with ones that will be of better help to you now and in the future, so you are tooled-up for the future.
What happens in our sessions?
Sometimes, an individual cannot quite put their finger on what specific event was the catalyst which led them here. That feeling however was the driving force that did, and it is those strong feelings and emotions that we will be exploring together weekly in sessions.
In sessions, we will engage in talk therapy which will give you a chance to explore how you feel by working on and building a greater awareness of who you are today.
I trained as an integrative psychotherapeutic practitioner in the modalities of Psychodynamic Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Person-Centered Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and CBT. I may use some of these modalities and/or additional therapeutic tools I am trained in, or maybe just one. But again, it will be solely dependent on the uniqueness of the individual client or couples and the presenting symptoms you may bring to each session.
I have spent the last 2 years working with clients in long-term therapy (2- years) treating the symptoms of Complex Trauma/PTSD undiagnosed or diagnosed, specifically originating from childhood sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, emotional abuse, violence, or torture.
Who are my clients?
I cannot tell you who my clients are because I ethically adhere to client confidentiality and privacy. But I can tell you, all yes all, have walked different roads and trodden different paths to you in regards to what hand life has dealt them and their individual choices they have made.
However, all roads have led each unique individual like you to my therapy page and room! Every single one of them, strives to work on understanding through awareness, who they are, to improve their mental health or strengthen areas in their life to be a better version of themselves now and for their future.
A person’s rights to confidentiality and privacy in respect of their personal and identifiable information GDPR (2018) will always be treated of paramount, why I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Additional about me:
I started my training to become a counsellor back in 1994 but due to having a young family, I had a break which I feel has profoundly enhanced and enriched my life experience and has made me the professional I am today. I came back to the counselling profession in 2017 to complete my training, most certainly a different person that entered nearly 25 years previous for sure.
When I am not seeing clients, I am still working in the counselling and psychotherapy community.
I can also be found on the FB Counselling Tutor page, which has just over 40k members, where I have been the Group Expert on the largest social media platform for qualified and trainee counsellors, since last year, giving advice to students and trainees.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
If not, may I take this opportunity to wholeheartedly and sincerely, wish you all the best on your journey ahead and thank you for reading.
