It can be hard to find a counsellor; there are many of us so how do you know who's right for you? I hope the following will help you form a picture of what I'm like, and whether you might like to work with me, but if you still have questions, please feel free to get in touch and we can have a chat without any pressure or obligation.

I'm sure you'd expect that I'm properly qualified, etc (you can read my specific qualifications in another section) so I'll start by saying that in addition to being a counsellor, I'm also a mother of two (now adults). I have experienced challenges and difficulties, as well as achievements, in life. I think I'm warm, approachable and have a down-to-earth personality. I'm good at helping people feel at ease. I aim to provide a space where you feel safe, respected and validated.

I work with adults of all ages who come with a wide range of difficulties or challenges that they'd like to explore, understand, resolve and/or feel better about. Due to my rather unique set of qualifications and experience I also specialise in working with issues related to pregnancy, birth and parenthood, whether current or in the past. This might include postnatal depression, fear of birth (tocophobia), problems during pregnancy, difficulties bonding, miscarriage, termination, difficult or traumatic birth experience, struggling with adjusting to life as a parent or grandparent, etc.

It’s likely that we will mostly talk, but I also take a holistic approach to counselling; it's not all about what's going on in your head, and sometimes it can be hard to know how to express every thought! Every part of us affects every other part of us, so sometimes it can be more valuable to focus on breathing or relaxation, or perhaps more creative approaches, to access and explore areas that can be out of our awareness. This can help to shed light on previously hidden things as you move towards your goals.

Through our working relationship I want you to feel heard, validated and emotionally safe. We'll look at areas of your life that are causing you difficulty, and sometimes this might link to things in the past that you may or may not have realised were connected to the present. Sometimes it's useful to look back to learn, understand or accept, but at the same time we will look at what's going on now so that change becomes possible. When you feel ready you can experiment with new responses, new feelings, new perspectives, new skills which gradually lead to therapeutic change.

If you’re interested in knowing more about me or how I work, please have a look around my website.
I work from a dedicated room in my home near Totton, Hampshire. It's easy to find whether you're coming from Southampton, New Forest, Romsey, Winchester or further afield. It's just off a main road, and there's ample free on-street parking.

If we live far apart, we could meet online. I currently use Google Meet for online counselling.
If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
