If you are reading this then I guess that you want to make a change in your life. Making this kind of commitment can take a lot of courage and this might be an indicator of how much you want the change. Maybe it is anger, depression or emotional pain, or maybe a difficult relationship or the loss of a loved one. It could be that you do not even know quite what it is, but something about life doesn't feel right, or you find yourself stuck in the same old, unsatisfactory patterns. How I work
The style of counselling I offer is built on Person-centred Therapy, putting your experience first, with the understanding that what you need to heal and grow can be found within you. I also utilise techniques and theory from Gestalt Therapy that can offer more dynamic and creative ways to explore and process your experiences.
Mindfulness is an important part of how I like to work with people. Mindfulness can increase your self-awareness and it can strengthen you ability to chose in the moment. We can also use it to explore your spirituality, sense of meaning, and positive healing states of compassion and love. We can practice this as either guided meditation or as an interactive, social meditation.
I am currently most experienced in working with grief, suicide, anxiety, adoption and self-acceptance but this is not an exhaustive list. There is scientific evidence that one of the most important elements for a good outcome in therapy is the relationship between the client and counsellor. We get the chance to build a private and safe relationship to which I bring respect, empathy, compassion, and clear safe boundaries. Like a plant being given all the right conditions to bloom, this relationship can give you the right conditions to heal and grow.
I am from North Devon, and I have spent some time at university in Leicester studying environmental biology. Since then I have had a career as a tree surgeon and time spent at home as a full time parent. I now work enabling people to live independently and as a counsellor. I have had my own problems to overcome in counselling, and I have found Buddhism to be very helpful in my healing process too.
