I qualified as a counsellor in 2014 and have since split my time between working with children and young people in an education setting and with adults in private practice. I am currently able to offer online and telephone sessions in the evening or at weekends.
My main approach (or core modality) is person-centred - this approach views you as the expert in your own life and my role is non-directive, actively listening to your concerns and helping you to explore and understand yourself and your problems. You would decide what to bring to each session and I would support you to address and overcome issues in your own time.
I have completed additional training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and can offer a CBT-informed approach to managing anxiety and low mood. This involves helping you to understand how your thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and behaviours are connected and how one can influence the other. This approach is more directive and may involve challenging negative thoughts, keeping thought or mood records, creating and completing goals, and carrying out action plans or home tasks between sessions.
I am a registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As such, I am committed to providing a professional and ethical service to my clients by adhering to each body's code of ethical practice. I also hold current professional indemnity and public liability insurance, undertake regular training and development, and have monthly supervision.
Please be advised that there are no set or recommended number of counselling sessions, as each client and their experience of the world is unique.
