I am an experienced counsellor and supervisor who will treat you with compassion, encourage and support you and always hold some space for a sense of humour.
I knew I needed help when my life changed following the death of my Mum from cancer. I appeared to be coping well…working, bringing up my daughters, seeing friends and seeming to function; but inside I was struggling. Losing my father subsequently sent me into a more intense grief process that forced me to actually grieve for my mother too. I was an adult orphan. It hit hard. Therapy allowed me to feel these feelings I had buried which was painful at times but led to a sense of peace. It will never be ‘fine’ to lose those I loved but I can live with the empty space and live well.I understand how tough life can be sometimes and how scary asking for help can be. I found my own counselling challenging, sometimes fun, often enlightening and ultimately valuable, so can understand some of your feelings too….it can be daunting to meet with a complete stranger and talk about ‘your stuff’.
As a white female I am working on, and learning how, I can make my practice more inclusive and welcoming to clients that are from minority groups who are so under represented in the therapy world. I will endeavour to take into consideration your gender, race, cultural background, religion and/or sexuality as it is in an important part of who you are and your story; this is on-going work for me that I am committed to.
I feel the heart of successful therapy is the relationship between counsellor and client which helps the client feel safe, supported and respected in a confidential, non judgemental environment. Working together within this safe environment we can fully explore the issues and concerns that you bring, helping you to lead a happier life.
I work with people who may have issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, sexual and physical abuse, trauma, loss, bereavement, low mood, stress, relationship problems, low confidence, change of life events (such as job change, relocation, divorce, injury and long term illness and pain).
I am also a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and can be found on their accredited register and work within their ethical framework including the competencies for working online and telephone.
I am also a qualified Supervisor which means I oversee other counsellors work as well as supporting other professionals in their clinical work such as nurses and teachers.
