Hi, and thanks for visiting my profile on the National Counselling Society. My name is Dan and I am the counsellor at the online counselling service TalkCCT.

I offer counselling which takes a gentle and resistance-free approach to helping you explore your situation. In our conversations, I take you as a whole person by inviting you to talk about what you consider is important to get to the matter of what is causing you mental distress. I follow principles which respectfully turn the focus on you, and allows you to determine the flow and pace of counselling, and it is for this reason that client-centred therapy is also referred to as non-directive. So no matter what it is you might be facing , the way I receive you in the counselling relationship is consistent; I listen actively and suspend all judgements to focus on your lived reality, allowing you to process your situation in a way untampered by anyone else.

With particular experience and research on trauma and depression, the particular kind of therapy I practice has been found to be highly appropriate and effective. I only wish when I think back to the hardest period of my life where I experienced depression that I had access to a client-centred counsellor, because there is no reason why mental suffering should last any longer than it needs to, and the peace of mind and freedom that comes from establishing a new perspective and fresh outlook is what is incredibly valuable.

It is in embodying the right values in the therapeutic relationship with you, and not impeding on your reflective experience, that nurtures your natural innate capacity for healing to take place. When you think about it, it is not often in our everyday relationships that we have an opportunity to be heard. If you really need to express what is going on for you, it is no good for that to be met with opinions, misplaced advice, or selfish reactions from others.

How is Counselling Structured?
You would not be required to decide on goals and corresponding outcomes prior to starting with me - although, you're more than welcome to share whatever goals you may want to set for yourself. While I am interested in your reasons for coming to counselling to see if what I offer is valuable to you, from my perspective I see each session – and even each moment throughout the hour with you – as the chance for something new to emerge.

Finally, what are some things you can expect from counselling with me?
. Enabling you to discover your own insights into your life that create a shift in your view of life and how you're feeling
. Becoming more open to experience with a clear perception, instead of being driven by habitual patterns of anxiety
. Supporting yourself and your right to be your own person and to own your judgements and preferences in relationships with others
. Re-establish a flow of experience in life that is less threatening or disturbing

I offer a free 20 minute introductory session, which gives us both the chance to get to meet each other and establish the basis for counselling. For information on availability times, please see the booking form on my website at https://www.talkcct.co.uk/book-a-session. You can then get in touch with me there, or by hitting the 'email me' button at the top of this page. Thank you for reading my profile, and I look forward to working with you, take care.
