Key Workers Counselling

Welcome. I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am highly qualified and have experience working with a variety of issues including: Anxiety, Depression, Gender Dysphoria and Sexuality, Relationships, Loss and Trauma. I use many techniques including CBT, to help you explore your difficulties and emotions, gain insight and clarity on your situation and find a positive way forward. I work with adults and children (age 6 and upwards) and have a practice room in Morchard Bishop, Crediton. I offer a reduced rate no obligation one hour initial session. I look forward to hearing from you.

In addition, I am a qualified Clinical Supervisor and offer Supervision to trainee and qualified Counsellors and other Health Professionals.

Since 2001, through my work with the NHS and several charities including Age Concern, Exeter Homeless Action Group and Journey Counselling, I have supported individuals, children and families with mental health issues, using CBT, play and music therapies. I am qualified in Gestalt and Transactional Analysis to an advanced level.

I offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to explore aspects of your life which have been challenging or confusing. You may want to make changes in how you respond to others or gain clarity. Sharing my insights and empathy, I would develop a therapeutic relationship, where you feel comfortable to explore your difficulties and find hope.

My Background
I initially trained in Psychology and used these skills to support homeless families living in London. I have worked in the Public Sector for many years and with several charities, I have mainly worked in the areas of Mental Health, Trauma and Relationships. I am currently working as a volunteer for a local Mid Devon Youth Club and recently The Intercom Trust. I am a GSRD Affirmative Therapist. I have worked with the Amber Foundation for a number of years. I have undertaken extensive training to support my therapeutic work and regularly attend CPD Workshops, recently covering:

GSRD: Trans, Non-binary and Questioning Clients: Serge Nicholson.
Safeguarding Children Level:2
Domestic Violence: Journey Counselling
Early Bird Programme: National Autistic Society (NAS)
Mindfulness: Dartington Hall.

Counselling Model
My main model of Counselling is Gestalt, which is a creative model, focusing on mind, body and emotions. I am an integrative Counsellor, which means I incorporate other techniques into my work including CBT, Transactional Analysis, play therapy and music. I believe it is critical to our work that we develop a good therapeutic relationship, using trust and empathy, getting to know you as a unique person and the specific needs that you have, which helps me identify which techniques would be most suited and beneficial for you.

I have a current Enhanced DBS Check (formerly CRB).  I am registered with the Information Commissioner's office (ICO).  As a Senior Accredited member of the NCPS, I work within their Ethical Framework and have regular supervision.
